California CodesBusiness and Professions Code - BPCDivision 5 — Weights and MeasuresChapter 6 — Fair Packaging and Labeling ActSection 12601

This chapter is designed to protect purchasers of any commodity within its provisions against deception or misrepresentation. Packages and their labels should enable consumers to obtain accurate information as to the quantity of the contents and should facilitate value comparisons.

It is hereby declared to be the policy of the Legislature to assist in attaining these goals.

Notes

Establishes legislative policy rather than an operative compliance rule: the chapter is intended to protect commodity purchasers from deception or misrepresentation, ensure packages and labels provide accurate quantity information, and facilitate value comparisons. The Legislature declares that state policy is to assist in achieving those consumer-information and protection goals.
