U.S. Constitution, Second Amendment

Right to Keep and Bear Arms

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Notes

Bars infringement of the right of the people to keep and bear arms. The text pairs that right with a statement that a well regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state, and the prohibition on infringement applies to the right of the people as a whole.
