U.S. Constitution, Nineteenth Amendment

Voting Rights and Sex

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Notes

Bars the United States and any state from denying or abridging the right of citizens of the United States to vote on account of sex. Allows Congress to enforce the article by appropriate legislation, so both denial and lesser abridgment of the vote because of sex are prohibited.
