California Codes, Code of Civil Procedure - CCP, Part 2 — Of Civil Actions, Title 11 — Contribution Among Joint Judgment Debtors, Chapter 1 — Releases From and Contribution Among Joint Tortfeasors, Section 879

If any provision of this title or the application thereof to any person is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the title which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application and to this end the provisions of this title are declared to be severable.

Notes

Establishes severability for the title, so a provision or application held invalid does not invalidate other provisions or applications that can still be given effect without the invalid portion. The title expressly declares its provisions severable, preserving independently operative parts when a particular provision or application cannot validly be enforced.
