California Codes, Code of Civil Procedure - CCP, Part 2 — Of Civil Actions, Title 14 — Of Miscellaneous Provisions, Chapter 2 — Bonds and Undertakings, Article 8 — Bonds to the State of California, Section 995.830

If a statute or court order pursuant thereto providing for a bond does not specify the beneficiary of the bond, the bond shall be to the State of California.

Notes

Requires a bond to name the State of California as beneficiary when the statute providing for the bond, or a court order issued under that statute, does not specify a beneficiary. The State therefore serves as the default bond beneficiary only when no beneficiary is otherwise identified by the governing authority.
