California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 2 — Contracts, Title 1 — Nature of a Contract, Chapter 5 — Consideration, Section 1611

When a contract does not determine the amount of the consideration, nor the method by which it is to be ascertained, or when it leaves the amount thereof to the discretion of an interested party, the consideration must be so much money as the object of the contract is reasonably worth.

Notes

Sets the consideration, when a contract neither fixes its amount nor provides a method for determining it or leaves the amount to an interested party’s discretion, at the amount of money the object of the contract is reasonably worth. Reasonable value therefore supplies the missing consideration amount.
