California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 1.6A — Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies, Article 2 — Obligations of Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies, Section 1786.30

Whenever an investigative consumer reporting agency prepares an investigative consumer report, no adverse information in the report (other than information that is a matter of public record, the status of which has been updated pursuant to Section 1786.28) may be included in a subsequent investigative consumer report unless that adverse information has been verified in the process of making the subsequent investigative consumer report, or the adverse information was received within the three-month period preceding the date the subsequent report is furnished.

Notes

Prohibits an investigative consumer reporting agency from repeating adverse information in a later investigative consumer report unless it is verified during preparation of that later report or was received within the preceding three months. Exempts public-record information whose status has been updated under the referenced provision from this re-verification restriction.
