California Codes, Code of Civil Procedure - CCP, Part 2 — Of Civil Actions, Title 14 — Of Miscellaneous Provisions, Chapter 7 — General Provisions, Section 1049

An action is deemed to be pending from the time of its commencement until its final determination upon appeal, or until the time for appeal has passed, unless the judgment is sooner satisfied.

Notes

Defines an action as pending from its commencement through final determination on appeal or expiration of the time to appeal, unless the judgment is satisfied earlier. The action’s pending status therefore ends at the earliest applicable point among earlier satisfaction, final appellate determination, or expiration of the appeal period.
