California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 9 — Agency, Chapter 1 — Agency in General, Article 2 — Authority of Agents, Section 2321

When an authority is given partly in general and partly in specific terms, the general authority gives no higher powers than those specifically mentioned.

Notes

Limits general language in an agent's authority when the authority also contains specific terms. Bars the general grant from giving the agent powers greater than those specifically stated, making the specific terms the ceiling on authority where the same authorization combines both general and particular language.
