California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 2 — Contracts, Title 1 — Nature of a Contract, Chapter 5 — Consideration, Section 1614

A written instrument is presumptive evidence of a consideration.

Notes

Establishes that a written instrument is presumptive evidence that consideration exists. The writing itself therefore supports a presumption of consideration unless that presumption is overcome, rather than requiring the party relying on the instrument to prove consideration in the first instance.
