California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 2.96 — California Rental-purchase Act, Section 1812.646

Any waiver or modification of the provisions of this title by the consumer or lessor shall be void and unenforceable as contrary to public policy.

Notes

Bars a consumer or lessor from waiving or modifying provisions of the title by declaring any such waiver or modification contrary to public policy, void, and unenforceable. The rule prevents either party from contracting around the title’s requirements because an attempted waiver or modification has no enforceable legal effect.
