California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 1.6E — Credit Services, Section 1789.14

Before the execution of a contract or agreement between the consumer and a credit services organization, the credit services organization shall provide the consumer a statement in writing containing all the information required by Section 1789.15. The credit services organization shall maintain on file for a period of four years following the completion or termination of the credit services organization agreement with the consumer an exact copy of the statement.

Notes

Requires a credit-services organization to give the consumer the required written disclosure statement before the parties execute their contract or agreement. The organization must keep an exact copy of that statement for four years after the credit-services agreement is completed or terminated, making the precontract disclosure and four-year retention period separate duties.
