California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 3 — Deposit, Chapter 1 — Deposit in General, Article 2 — Obligations of the Depositary, Section 1827
If a thing deposited is owned jointly or in common by persons who cannot agree upon the manner of its delivery, the depositary may deliver to each his proper share thereof, if it can be done without injury to the thing.
Notes

Limits that authority to situations in which dividing and delivering the owners’ shares can be done without injury to the deposited property.
