California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 14 — Lien, Chapter 1 — Liens in General, Article 6 — Extinction of Liens, Section 2910

The sale of any property on which there is a lien, in satisfaction of the claim secured thereby, or in case of personal property, its wrongful conversion by the person holding the lien, extinguishes the lien thereon.

Notes

Establishes that selling property subject to a lien in satisfaction of the secured claim extinguishes the lien on that property. For personal property, wrongful conversion by the person holding the lien likewise extinguishes the lien, so either the qualifying lien-sale satisfaction or the lienholder’s wrongful conversion ends the lien.
