California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 4 — Loan, Chapter 1 — Loan for Use, Section 1891

The borrower of a thing for use must not part with it to a third person, without the consent of the lender.

Notes

Prohibits a borrower of a thing for use from parting with it to a third person without the lender’s consent. Requires the lender’s consent before the borrower may place the borrowed thing with another person, so the borrower cannot part with it to a third party solely on the borrower’s own authority.
