California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 4 — General Provisions, Part 1 — Relief, Title 2 — Compensatory Relief, Chapter 1 — Damages in General, Article 1 — General Principles, Section 3283

Damages may be awarded, in a judicial proceeding, for detriment resulting after the commencement thereof, or certain to result in the future.

Notes

Allows damages in a judicial proceeding for detriment that occurs after the proceeding begins or that is certain to occur in the future. The provision permits an award for those later or future harms rather than limiting damages to detriment that had already occurred when the proceeding commenced.
