California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 4 — General Provisions, Part 6 — Works of Improvement, Title 2 — Private Works of Improvement, Chapter 4 — Mechanics Lien, Article 1 — Who is Entitled to Lien, Section 8400
A person that provides work authorized for a work of improvement, including, but not limited to, the following persons, has a lien right under this chapter:
(a) Direct contractor.
(b) Subcontractor.
(c) Material supplier.
(d) Equipment lessor.
(e) Laborer.
(f) Design professional.
Notes
Establishes a lien right under this chapter for a person who provides authorized work for a work of improvement. The covered persons expressly include, without being limited to, a direct contractor, subcontractor, material supplier, equipment lessor, laborer, and design professional.
