California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 2 — Property, Part 3 — Personal or Movable Property, Title 1 — Personal Property in General, Section 946

If there is no law to the contrary, in the place where personal property is situated, it is deemed to follow the person of its owner, and is governed by the law of his domicile.

Notes

Sets personal property, when no contrary law exists where the property is situated, to be treated as following the person of its owner and governed by the law of the owner’s domicile. A contrary law in the place where the property is located displaces this domicile-law rule.
