California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 2 — Contracts, Title 3 — Interpretation of Contracts, Section 1641

The whole of a contract is to be taken together, so as to give effect to every part, if reasonably practicable, each clause helping to interpret the other.

Notes

Requires a contract to be read as a whole and, where reasonably practicable, interpreted to give effect to every part. Each clause should assist in interpreting the others, preventing isolated provisions from being read without regard to the agreement’s remaining language.
