California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 1.8 — Personal Data, Chapter 1 — Information Practices Act of 1977, Article 12 — Construction With Other Laws, Section 1798.72

Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to authorize the disclosure of any record containing personal information, other than to the subject of such records, in violation of any other law.

Notes

Prohibits construing the chapter as authorizing disclosure of a record containing personal information, other than disclosure to the individual who is the subject of the record, when that disclosure would violate another law. The chapter therefore does not supply independent authority to make an otherwise unlawful personal-information disclosure to another person or entity.
