California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 4 — General Provisions, Part 1 — Relief, Title 1 — Relief in General, Section 3274

As a general rule, compensation is the relief or remedy provided by the law of this State for the violation of private rights, and the means of securing their observance; and specific and preventive relief may be given in no other cases than those specified in this Part of the Civil Code.

Notes

Defines compensation generally as the relief or remedy California law provides for violations of private rights and as the means of securing observance of those rights. Limits specific and preventive relief to the cases identified in the relevant Part of the Civil Code, rather than making those forms of relief generally available.
