California Codes, Code of Civil Procedure - CCP, Part 2 — Of Civil Actions, Title 9 — Enforcement of Judgments, Division 1 — Definitions and General Provisions, Chapter 1 — Short Title and Definitions, Section 680.180

“Document of title” means “document” as defined in paragraph (30) of subdivision (a) of Section 9102 of the Commercial Code. A document of title is negotiable if it is negotiable within the meaning of Section 7104 of the Commercial Code.

Notes

Defines document of title by adopting the referenced Commercial Code definition of document. It further provides that a document of title is negotiable when it qualifies as negotiable under the specifically referenced Commercial Code provision, so both the basic definition and negotiability test come from those incorporated rules.
