California CodesBusiness and Professions Code - BPCDivision 6 — Business RightsChapter 1 — Good WillSection 14102

The good will of a business is property and is transferable.

Notes

Defines the good will of a business as property and expressly allows that good will to be transferred. The provision therefore gives business good will property status and makes it capable of transfer, rather than treating the expectation of continued patronage as something inseparable from the existing owner or incapable of being conveyed.
