California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 14 — Lien, Chapter 1 — Liens in General, Article 1 — Definition of Liens, Section 2875

A special lien is one which the holder thereof can enforce only as security for the performance of a particular act or obligation, and of such obligations as may be incidental thereto.

Notes

Defines a special lien as a lien enforceable only as security for performance of a particular act or obligation and obligations incidental to it. The holder’s enforcement right is therefore limited to securing that specified performance and related incidental obligations, rather than serving as security for obligations outside that particular relationship.
