California Codes, Civil Code - CIV, Division 3 — Obligations, Part 4 — Obligations Arising from Particular Transactions, Title 14 — Lien, Chapter 1 — Liens in General, Article 3 — Effect of Liens, Section 2890

The creation of a lien does not of itself imply that any person is bound to perform the act for which the lien is a security.

Notes

Sets that creating a lien alone does not mean any person is obligated to perform the act secured by that lien. The lien provides security for the act, but its creation by itself does not impose on any person a duty to carry out the secured act.
